How to Keep Your Mental Health Up in Quarantine

by Alex John |

There’s winter blues and then there’s quarantine blues, and none of them are fun, man. It takes effort to shake off the doubt and somber, especially with restrictions involved. It’s not always enough to change up your inside routine. We get it, you need to get up and get out! But when there’s little you can do, you need to turn to simple solutions to manage your mental health. Here’s what you should do.

Keep Moving

We don’t mean exercise, that’s great, but sometimes you just need to get off the couch. Put on your mask and go for a walk where you know there’s limited people around. It can also be as minute as moving from room to room. Movement encourages your endorphins and keeps you feeling good. Nothing feeds depression like staying still. Get up and get moving!

Stay in Touch

Zoom meetings with your colleagues are one thing, but don’t cut off your friends. Host a virtual game night or dinner with those you care for most. Staying in touch and encouraging laughter will keep the blues away. At the end of the day, community is key to a healthy, fulfilled life. Maintain those relationships, you’ll be making their day too.

Change it Up

This goes without saying, but take a shower and change your underwear everyday. Getting dressed and making your bed each day has proven to combat depression. Going through the motions of normal life will help your attitude while in lockdown. Change your hair, change your clothes, and maintain your awesome swagger and style.

Maintain Your Diet

If not for your waistline, eating healthy for your brain health will help when you can’t go anywhere. You want to keep those chemicals and good fats in order. Sweet treats and alcohol might seem tempting while you’re stuck inside, but they’ll be a detriment to your mental health and appearance. Watch your bad carb and processed food intake, it may be your diet that’s compounding your blues!

We understand that while in quarantine, it can be a lot just to look forward to the next day. But you’re going to come out the other side of this. Man, up, chin up, keep your swag levels high, and take care of your mental and physical health. You’ve got a lot to accomplish and a lot of reasons to look forward to the days ahead.
